Brooklyn Tire Shop Owner Charged With Bribing a New York City Investigator

New York City Department of Investigations (DOI) arrested a Brooklyn tire shop owner for allegedly trying to bribe a DOI investigator who was posing as a Department of Consumer Affairs inspector.

Joao Semedo, owner of JVS Tire shop in Brooklyn, owed the City over $2,000 in fines he needed to pay before renewing his dealer license. According to the criminal complaint, Samedo offer the undercover DOI agent first $200 to “make the fines go away”, and then $1,500. He was arrested after the second attempt to bribe the official.

Samedo is charged with Bribery in the Third Degree, a class D Felony, which carries  a possible jail time of up to seven years.
