Shu Ming Li and You Q Liang, contractor, and property owner, respectively, were arrested for offering bribes to inspections with the City Department of Buildings in efforts to persuade them to overlook several electrical and construction violations at some residential housing throughout Brooklyn, New York.
On May 5, 2010, Li and Liang allegedly attempted to bribe a Department of Building inspector with $5,000 cash after he observed the construction of the basement of a home under construction in Brooklyn. The basement was allegedly in the process of transforming into an apartment without permission from the City Department of Building.
If convicted, Li and Liang each face a maximum penalty of 7 years in prison.
